But Like... What is CBD?

What is CBD

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the many cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. But don’t let the word “cannabis” scare you. The plant genus, Cannabis, refers to both hemp and marijuana. The main difference between the two is that marijuana contains more than .3% THC (the cannabinoid responsible for marijuana’s psychoactive effect), while hemp does not.  So if you’re wondering, “Will CBD get me high?” The answer is no.

While THC and CBD both have significant therapeutic properties, CBD doesn’t cause users to feel intoxicated. In fact, when used together, CBD can actually lesson the psychoactive effect of THC.

Does CBD really do anything

The next question that comes to mind is whether CBD actually does anything. With mile-long lists of health benefits from curing your dog’s anxiety to treating cancer, it’s almost easier to believe it’s all a lie. But the truth is, CBD works because our bodies already produce and utilize naturally occurring cannabinoids, or endocannabinoids. These endocannabinoids respond to stress, illness, and injury and work within a system called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).
This system is linked to the following processes (among others):

  • Digestion

  • Inflammation and immune response

  • Mood and stress

  • Memory

  • Motor control

  • Sleep

  • Cardiovascular system

  • Liver function

  • Reproductive system

  • Skin and nerve function

  • Chronic pain

When these processes are balanced, it is called homeostasis. Maintaining homeostasis is the main function of the ECS. For example, if a major change in mood or sleep disrupts homeostasis, the ECS produces and utilizes endocannabinoids to correct the imbalance. Pretty cool, right?

But the problem is, not all ECS are created equal. Some people have an abundance of endocannabinoids while others do not. This is when it’s time to take action!

How to balance your endocannabinoid system

  • A healthy ratio of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids can enhance the ECS. This can be achieved by adding hemp oil, hemp seeds, chia seeds, flax seeds, walnuts, and eggs to your diet.

  • Eat organic and use metal or glass containers for your food. Pesticides disrupt the ECS while phthalates found in plastic block cannabinoid receptors.

  • For optimal ECS function, use moderation or avoid alcohol completely.

Finally, if these options don’t work for you, we recommend nourishing your ECS with our professional grade, full spectrum CBD products.

Our products are produced from hemp grown in the United States with organic growing methods. The oil is extracted in a way that protects the plants valuable terpenes and cannabinoids. This produces a full spectrum oil that encourages the “entourage effect” - a sort of synergy that makes full spectrum extracts more effective than isolate CBD products. Finally, a proprietary method is used to remove all THC. We then have our oil tested by a 3rd party lab to ensure exactly what’s in, and not in, each and every one of our products.
